Afrobeats star, Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy pulled stunning performance on global comedy show ‘The Daily Show’.
‘The Daily Show’ is an American late-night talk show that piques on satire and self-deprecatory humour to discuss socially and culturally relevant stories.
The show is currently hosted by South African comedian, Trevor Noah and has won 24 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Burna Boy, on Tuesday night, appeared alongside Mark Sanford, a former US representative and former Governor of South Carolina. The ‘African Giant’, dressed in a multi-coloured striped outfit, a pair of glasses and a neck full of diamonds while rocking his signature braids, performed hit tracks ‘Ye’ and ‘Anybody’, eliciting loud cheers from the audience.
In the interview with Trevor Noah, Burna Boy explained the reasons for his outburst over the Coachella poster in January stating, “I am looking for my name and I can’t find my name. I am like – am I really performing?” Ever since the incident, the title has now been solidified as the rapidly rising artist’s tag name ‘African Giant’.
It was very refreshing for Burna Boy to state his reasons of displeasure were beyond personal by saying, “I didn’t like it and I expressed myself. Not just for that but so, everyone that comes after me won’t have to go through that,” he said.
Trevor Noah noted that people might not understand Burna Boy’s huge influence as an artist in Nigeria and in Africa, the continent with one of the world’s largest population. In July, Burna Boy went a step further with the ‘African Giant’ tag by using it as the name for this chart-topping album, which was premiered Jimmy Kimmel’s show and later in major cities around the world including London.
